Nestled amidst the hills and valleys of Kegalle, Meedeniya is a charming agricultural hub where life gently follows the rhythm of the land. Here, generations of farmers—both large and smallholders—nurture a rich variety of crops: rubber, tea, coconut, spices, and the ever-precious rice. Across the landscape, emerald paddy fields stretch beside small, picturesque villages, where tight-knit farming families work hand in hand, their livelihoods deeply rooted in the fertile soil they cherish.

The project with AOF

As the seasons turn, one of their greatest challenges has been securing high-quality seed paddy in time for sowing. Recognizing this pressing need, AOF stepped in to lend a hand. Together with the Meedeniya farmer community, AOF procured and gifted 550 kilograms of premium seed paddy to 30 farmers, giving new life to their fields and their hopes.

In a beautiful cycle of giving back, the farmers pledged to return a share of their harvest to AOF. The rice paddy collected will be sold, and the proceeds will form the foundation of a new Farmer Development Fund—created by the community, for the community. This fund will support training and skill development, helping members strengthen their livelihoods and move together toward a future of shared prosperity and sustainability.
