From 1998 to 2012, AOF/WEEL created a vibrant stage for women entrepreneurs through its bi-annual exhibition and sales fairs. Over 14 years, 28 bustling two-day trade fairs came to life—most famously at Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo, with others energizing communities in Monaragala, Ampara, Kurunegala, Samanthurai, and Ambalantota.

For many women, these fairs were more than market stalls; they were opportunities to step into the public sphere with confidence. Rows of products—mushroom and fish-based items, homemade food products, organic garden produce, clothing, household essentials, and beautifully crafted handicrafts—drew crowds of eager consumers and potential business partners.

Each fair became a celebration of creativity, skill, and determination. By connecting women with buyers and value-chain partners, the initiative helped entrepreneurs expand their income, strengthen their networks, and see their small enterprises grow. Over time, these gatherings became a cherished platform for women to shine.
